Albion Academy students celebrate the season of goodwill

Students from across The Albion Academy have worked together to plan and prepare a number of celebratory events in the run-up to Christmas and are opening the doors to the local community as well as raising money for charity.

On Tuesday December 16th, Year 7 are taking the lead in the Christmas Fayre – a variety of stalls will be available from 4pm to 6pm for staff, students, friends and families to snap up a pre-Christmas bargain or finish off their Christmas shopping! Visitors can also have a picture taken with Santa Claus and have it printed and framed, there and then – a must for doting grandparents! Visitors can also indulge in home-baked cakes and a number of arts and crafts stalls will be vying for business.

Mrs Jane Wroe, Inclusion Manager at the Academy, said:

“The students in Year 7 are working on their enterprise skills this year and the Christmas Fayre is the first time to put these into action. We hope the community come out in force to support them in this, particularly at this time of year.”

Following on at 6pm on the same date, staff and students take a tried and trusted pantomime favourite onto the streets of Salford with the debut performance of ‘Aladdin in Salford’ adapted by Principal, Jenny Langley. From Year 7 to Year 11, drama students and teaching staff take leading roles in this rollicking barrel of laughs and songs. Mixing the traditional with the modern, ‘Aladdin in Salford’ is a delight for young and old alike.

Mrs Langley, talking at a recent rehearsal, said, “It never ceases to amaze me how much talent and skill we have at the Academy. It has been joyous to watch my words come to life and the students bring their vitality to this performance.”

On Wednesday 17th December at 2.30pm, it is the turn of Year 8 to welcome their grandparents or other elderly relatives to a feast of festive fun with an Afternoon Tea of mince pies and music. Invitations have been hand-delivered to relatives and all involved are looking forward to establishing a new Academy Christmas tradition.
