World Book Day 2014

On Thursday 6th March 2014, The Albion Academy celebrated World Book Day.  It was a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and (most importantly) a celebration of reading.  Staff across the Academy were set the challenge to work all day in fancy dress as their favourite character from a book, with some imaginative, scary and slightly embarrassing results.

In the English department, each year group were given the chance to ‘Pick a Genre’ throughout the day, choosing their favourite genre to learn and explore with a member of the English team.  This enabled pupils to work with others not normally within their class and a new teacher.  Activities included a murder mystery lesson, sci-fi writing and creating a children’s book, including illustrations.

World Book Day became World Book Week at The Albion Academy as all pupils were set reading challenges during form time each day.  The school’s Green Room became a hub of excitement as pupils came to enter reading competitions and sought to borrow a book from the school library.  World Book Day 2014 was certainly one to remember.
